Lateral Periodontal Cyst

Definition

Cystic remnants of dental lamina present in the apposing gingival or root surfaces of teeth in adults.

Pathogenesis

  • Odontogenic:
    • probably cystic remnant of dental lamina

Gross Pathology

  • Usually:
    • apposing gingival or root surfaces of teeth in adults1
    • mandibular premolar regions

Histopathology

  • Lined by extremely thin epithelium:
    • one or two layers thick2
